Is it time for D.C.A. to discuss the possibility of AKC
registration of the descendants of the
Dalmatian-Pointer cross?

Response by Carol Hunter

I intend to vote yes

Even though this is only a vote on opening up a discussion it is an important step.

From my own personal experience with Dalmatian Stone Disease I believe it is under reported. The only blockage any of my Dals have had was last year when my 12 year old male “Hunter” blocked. He had been feed on a low purine diet all his life. He had diarrhea then dehydrated and plugged – the x ray showed with 5 stones. His bladder was full of gravel, crystals and other stones. We did not have the stones removed and sent off for analyzing, we had him euthanized. His kidney's had been slowly failing for several months. I came away from this experience with the strong feeling that this could happen to any male Dal if it could happen to Hunter.

After 35 years and over 12 generations the least we can do is discuss the issue. And after 35 years and 12 generations it needs to be settled in the conformation ring and the whelping box.
