Is it time for D.C.A. to discuss the possibility of AKC
registration of the descendants of the
Dalmatian-Pointer cross?

Response by Eva Berg

I intend to vote “yes” on the DCA ballot to discuss the possibility of AKC registration of the descendants of the Dal-Pointer cross, and urge all DCA members to also approve this measure. The ballot is simply to allow for additional discussions concerning registration, not to approve or disapprove registration itself.

I could write reams as why the AKC hold on the registration of descendants of Stocklore Stipples should be lifted, but this discussion can be publically made only after the present ballot measure is passed.

It is no secret that I am in favor of the LUA program. I worked closely with Dr. Holly Nelson in the 70’s and personally viewed many of the early litters. I became convinced that the health benefits to our breed made it imperative that this long-term project be continued. With Dr. Nelson, I personally became aware of the wide-spread nature of urate stone disease and the devastation it caused both the Dalmatian and the owner. During my terms on the DCA Board, I would often bring up the subject of reinvestigating registration, and there never was sufficient support to bring the question to the membership.

We now have this last opportunity to allow this process to continue for the benefit of our breed.
