Is it time for D.C.A. to discuss the possibility of AKC
registration of the descendants of the
Dalmatian-Pointer cross?
Very recently a program was broadcast in the UK on Pedigreed Dogs. Instead of the program it purported to be to many of the dog people included in it, it turned out to show the worst about purebred dogs, and blamed show breeders' exaggerations of breed traits for all the health issues purebred dogs have.... You can watch it in six sections on You Tube: To me, this is another reason to vote YES on the backcross ballot. If DCA votes NO on even discussing AKC registration for backcross Dals, think about how that will sound to the public.... "A genetic issue in the Dalmatian breed, urate stone formation that can cause urinary blockages, could be reduced or eliminated, but the Dalmatian Club of America won't allow the backcross Dals to be registered by AKC, even though their single pointer ancestor is at least 10, 12, or more generations back, and AKC has shown willingness to register them." You might not like that statement - I'm not crazy about it either, but it is the truth - or will be, if the upcoming vote gets a negative response. And the Animal Rights people would have a field day with it. Think carefully before you vote. There may be ramifications that you haven’t considered. Joanne Nash |
