Is it time for D.C.A. to discuss the possibility of AKC
registration of the descendants of the
Dalmatian-Pointer cross?

Response by Wayne Crown

DCA Members,

I will be voting YES to the question, "Is it time for D.C.A. to discuss the possibility of AKC registration of the descendants of the Dalmatian-Pointer cross?"

The reason for my YES vote is that I am convinced that the backcross project has successfully produced Dalmatians free of stone disease.

We have the cure to the stone forming disease in our hands and it's time to make it available to ALL Dalmatians.  This can only be accomplished when the backcross dogs are registered and everyone is free to incorporate them into their breeding programs; then and only then can the health of the entire breed benefit from this cure.

I have seen various postings asking the reason to register these dogs.  For me there is only one reason.  This is about improving the health of ALL Dalmatians, about freeing them of a horrible disease.

I encourage all of you to vote YES as well.

There is no need for anyone to fear opening this discussion.  Everyone will have input as discussion and debate is encouraged.  A YES vote does not automatically lead to registration of the backcross dogs. As the accompanying letter indicates a YES vote only lets the discussion begin.  This will provide an opportunity for all of us to have input into defining the requirements of registration.  In the future these requirements may or may not be met, who knows?  However, defining the requirements or goals is a necessary step in order to be able to determine success or failure.

Please vote YES and join in the discussion.

Thank you,
Wayne Crown
